Staff spotlight – Matt Newlin

Matt Newlin, Assistant Director of Financial Aid at the Brown School, recently completed a four-day training in WashingtoMattn, D.C., to become a certified Green Dot Facilitator at WashU. He will join the Green Dot facilitator team organized by the Relationship & Sexual Violence Prevention (RSVP) Center. As a Campus Facilitator, Matt will lead workshops – for students, staff and faculty – centered on creating change in our campus culture through bystander intervention and violence prevention. Green Dot is backed by research and used by colleges across the country. The Green Dot strategy educates and empowers students, staff and faculty to create a community where violence is not tolerated and everyone plays a part in creating a culture of respect.

For the last two years, Matt has served on the University Sexual Assault Investigation Board (USAIB), a group of students, staff and faculty who investigate complaints of sexual assault and sexual harassment of WU students. His new role builds off the skills and knowledge he has gained as a USAIB member. Matt is very excited for this new opportunity to help create a safe and inclusive campus environment for WU students. Talking about becoming a Green Dot Facilitator, Matt says, “This is an important new role for me, one which I take very seriously. I am excited to start working with students and colleagues across the university to create positive change on our campus.”

Congratulations to Matt!
