Ad-Hoc Committees

Chair, Secretary, and DSC elected member(s)

These committees address specific issues of concern to the DSC. The formation of an Ad-Hoc Committee requires approval from the DSC and are reviewed after six months to determine its ongoing continuation.

Bylaws Committee

Committee Chair, Secretary, and DSC elected member(s)

Responsible for reviewing  the DSC’s bylaws and recommending changes for consideration by the DSC for amendment. They also oversee implementation of and adherence to the bylaws, in collaboration with the Parliamentarian. The bylaws are reviewed, at minimum, annually by the committee.

Communications Committee

Chair, Secretary, and DSC elected member(s)

Responsible for creating and maintaining the DSC’s website and updating any DSC social media outlets. The Communications Committee is also responsible for creating brand materials for distribution to the larger WashU community.

Community Engagement Committee

Committee Chair, Secretary, and DSC elected member(s)

The purpose of this committee is to explore how WUSTL can better engage with the community — both the WashU community, and the broader St. Louis community — and the role staff and the DSC might play in any such engagement.

Elected Officers Committee

Executive Committee and Chairs of Bylaws, Communications, Community Engagement, Events, Human Resources, or Nominations/Elections committees

The Elected Officers Committee is comprised of the Executive Committee and the chairs of each of the subcommittees. This committee meets regularly before each full Danforth Staff Council meeting.

Events Committee

Responsible for, along with the Elected Officers committee, planning the Town Hall/Open Forum each semester. Also responsible for new member orientation, recognition of members rolling off the Council, and community building within the Council.

Executive Committee

Chair, Co-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Parliamentarian

The Executive Committee meets with the Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration and other senior university leaders as needed on important matters and ideas by staff members. They hold monthly DSC meetings and work with each committee to address the various needs and requests proposed by staff. They are also responsible for setting a meeting agenda to be shared with the Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration and DSC members.

Human Resources Committee

The HR Committee meets regularly with Human Resources managers to discuss the needs and concerns of staff and communicate to the DSC the outcomes of those meetings. Members of the HR committee are familiar with the Washington University employee handbook and the rights, privileges, and responsibilities that pertain to all staff members. The HR committee is also familiar with resources and benefits available to staff members.

Nominations Committee

Committee Chair, Secretary, and DSC elected member(s)

Responsible for soliciting and collecting annual nominations for new members of the DSC from all Danforth staff. They sort and review all applications, work with HR to ensure applicant eligibility, and make selection recommendations to the DSC. The committee shall report final selection results in an announcement to the Danforth staff, Human Resources, and the senior administration. The committee is also responsible for soliciting and collecting annual nominations for all Executive Committee and chair positions on the DSC.
